Snacks & Lunch

Parents will provide a healthy morning snack which may include a grain or protein, fruit, vegetable, and water.

We encourage parents to let their child help prepare and plan their school lunches. Please send a complete nutritional meal including a grain, protein, fruit, vegetables, and water. Please include a washcloth (to be used as a placemat) and utensils on a daily basis. If you are sending a lunch that needs to be heated up, please package it in a separate microwave-safe container.

Please do not send glass containers - we have noticed that bento boxes are easy to manage for the children.

All food and beverage items must fit inside your child’s lunchbox. This includes an extra snack and beverage if your child is enrolled in our extended program. Water bottles must be labeled with your child’s name and date each day.

Any food sent to school for special occasions, with the intent to share with the entire group, must come from an approved source such as a grocery store or bakery, and prepackaged for retail sale. Food prepared at home may be served only to your own child. Ask for specific requests due to allergies.

SAA encourages families to provide nutritious lunches and snacks based on the North Carolina Child Care Rules which are based on the recommended nutrient intake judged by the National Research Council.
